The FUTURE Act Passes in the House

WASHINGTON (December 10, 2019) — Today, Congress passed the Fostering Undergraduate Talent by Unlocking Resources for Education (FUTURE) Act. Julie Peller, Executive Director of Higher Learning Advocates, made the following statement to applaud Congress for their bipartisanship and support of today’s students.

“Higher Learning Advocates commends Congress for passing the FUTURE Act in a swift and bipartisan manner. The FUTURE Act will permanently fund Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs), simplify the FAFSA process, and streamline loan repayment, all of which are important steps toward a system that will better serve today’s students.

We urge Congress to build on this bipartisan focus on today’s students by introducing and passing a comprehensive reauthorization of the Higher Education Act (HEA). It’s been 11 years since HEA was reauthorized. We hope that Congress uses this momentum as encouragement for a long overdue full rewrite of the HEA.”
