Higher Learning Advocates’ Statement on President-Elect Biden’s American Rescue Plan

WASHINGTON — Higher Learning Advocates applauds President-elect Biden’s American Rescue Plan and its focus on the needs of today’s students. Julie Peller, executive director of Higher Learning Advocates, made the following statement:

“Higher Learning Advocates is glad to see that President-elect Biden’s proposed relief package includes measures to support today’s students, who face many barriers as the pandemic continues. We applaud the proposed increase of emergency aid, an essential resource for students facing unanticipated financial need, as well as the investments in SNAP and child care, which are lifelines for many low-income students and student parents particularly during this time.

Students have been faced with many challenges over the past year, and financial emergencies should not be a barrier to student success in higher education. We hope that the finalized package continues to provide for the needs of today’s students.”
